The Time to strike is when the opportunity Presents itself…

In martial arts, particularly in Isshinryu Karate, we live by a powerful code: "The time to strike is when the opportunity presents itself." This principle isn't just about combat—it's a guide for navigating life, especially in business. Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur, I've found countless moments where this mindset wasn't just helpful—it was essential.

Take, for instance, my decision to launch STRIKE Martial Arts. Initially, I considered a modest-sized dojo, something comfortable and economically safe. However, when the opportunity arose for a larger, more premium location, the deal was simply too good to pass up. Yes, it was bigger and costlier than initially planned, but someone was willing to partner with me, easing the initial financial strain and paving the way for growth beyond my immediate needs. Recognizing this opportunity, I struck decisively, knowing that such moments rarely repeat themselves.

This approach has consistently guided my business practices. I've closed deals and made upsells simply because I had an extra five minutes to chat with someone. Instead of idly waiting, I'd strike—turning casual conversations into valuable business opportunities. Each of these interactions reinforced the importance of readiness and alertness, ensuring I was always prepared to seize the moment.

A perfect example was during my days running Socks Off Entertainment. I was primarily known for comedy shows until the owner of Fortnight Brewing casually asked what other events I could manage. Without hesitation, I responded confidently, "Anything." That single word opened doors to countless possibilities, expanding my business far beyond its original scope. By not limiting myself, I allowed the opportunity to define my trajectory rather than constraining it by my initial plans.

Applying this philosophy goes beyond mere impulsiveness; it's about cultivating a mindset of awareness and bold action. It’s about training yourself to recognize moments of potential and having the courage to act decisively. Whether in martial arts, entrepreneurship, or everyday life, the principle remains clear: opportunities are fleeting, and the best time to strike is always now.

Embrace this mindset, and you'll find yourself stepping into opportunities others might overlook. Trust me—it has made all the difference.
